About Us

The Legion Foundation awards grants in response to written applications, which can be obtained by written request or by download from the Forms page on this site.

Scholarship applications from individuals for any upcoming September – June school year should be submitted by June 30 for consideration. Individual scholarship applicants who apply by June 30 will be notified of the Foundation’s decision by July 31. Each scholarship grant covers a one-year period, but may be renewed in later years.

An applicant's financial need is not a factor in the grant process. Rather than concentrating on financial aid forms, grants to students are based on a combination of factors. As a general rule the Foundation will review the personal data an applicant supplies; the written statement at the end of the application; the school at which the applicant wants to use grant funds; and the Foundation's annual grant budget. No single one of these factors is dispositive.

The Foundation takes pains to protect each applicant’s privacy, so details from any of the applications that we have received in the past cannot be provided to any other applicant.

Non-scholarship grant applications from individuals can also be submitted, although such grants are rarely made. Please provide information about the applicant on the same form that is used for an individual scholarship application, and describe the applicant's particular non-scholarship need in the written statement at the end of the application. Please also describe in detail how the requested grant is expected to further the Foundation's charitable purpose.

Applications for grants to organizations may be submitted at any time.
